Hospital Makes Communications Improvement During SARS Epidemic
Idetix Software Systems Revize Software Enables Non-Technical Personnel To Post Accurate Information
AUBURN HILLS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 26, 2004--North York General Hospital (Toronto, Ontario Canada) faced a communications crisis during the recent SARS epidemic. The challenge was how to provide accurate information to the public immediately and in an easily accessible way. Everyone needed to know what was happening and what they could do to protect themselves and their loved ones."Fortunately, North York had been in the process of researching web content management software for their Internet site when the SARS crisis hit Toronto," said George Cameron, President and CEO of Idetix, www.idetix.com. "The difficulty of getting current, accurate information out during the crisis drove home the need for something more accessible and immediate. The SARS crisis really emphasized the value to North York General Hospital that a tool like Revize would enable them to leverage the Internet to manage information more effectively. Today, the hospital has a system in place that enables a variety of users to provide current information. And, that system is built upon capabilities found in Idetix's Revize(R) Software."
"One of the major contributions that Revize offers an institution such as North York Hospital is empowerment of end users. As is the case in many institutions, North York's web site was centrally managed by the IS department, requiring serious dedication of personnel and budget resources. Revize allows non-technical personnel to update information at anytime. Obviously this speeds the whole process and eliminates bottlenecks while cutting costs," said Cameron.
Chris Hart, IT Strategy Coordinator, North York General Hospital (NYGH), explained, "The SARS crisis emphasized the importance of allowing a variety of users to be able to provide current information. After a comprehensive requirements analysis and review of content management software vendors, NYGH concluded that Revize matched the defined requirements and provided the best value for our health care dollars. Revize allows NYGH to empower end users with the tools to manage their own content, therefore driving timely and relevant information to the web site. The overall design and consistency of the site is protected because users are given specific content contributor roles that allow them to change or update only certain sections of each page on the site."
Hart continued, "The flexibility and intuitive interface provided in the Revize product has greatly contributed to a successful content management implementation at North York General Hospital."
NYGH is a multi-site regional teaching hospital and serves people in north central Toronto and southern York Region. NYGH has three sites, including General Division -- a regional teaching hospital; Seniors' Health Centre -- a long-term care facility and day hospital for seniors; and Branson Division -- outpatient programs and urgent care provided through the Community Care Centre.
NYGH is affiliated with the University of Toronto and is a partner with Sunnybrook & Women's College Health Sciences Centre in the Peters-Boyd Academy.
North York General Hospital is also completing 75,000 sq. ft of renovations to the existing Leslie Street hospital building. Together, the expanded facility will have 440 inpatient beds, and will provide a full range of medical, clinical and wellness services.
The Charlotte and Lewis Steinberg Emergency at North York General Hospital, already one of the busiest emergency departments in Canada, has been expanded and renovated. A new triage area, 44 new treatment areas and new adult and pediatric waiting areas have been added. The facility is expected to treat more than 75,000 patients per year. Idetix is the first company to market a commercial off-the-shelf enterprise Web Content Management solution that is a cost-effective, user-friendly software package. In addition, the software has a unique technology marketed as Revize webSpaces(TM) that makes the offering a product of choice for the enterprise who seeks to offer Web Content Management as a hosted solution (i.e., ASP/Service-based computing model) for their diverse computing needs.
Unlike homegrown, forms-based systems, Idetix has commercialized Revize so that business owners can participate in the control of their Web-based initiatives and have a single point of accountability when a problem develops.
Cameron further explained, "We have built Revize with the pragmatic customer in mind. We understand that the purchasing decision for any enterprise, whether large or small must include flexible options that allow the customer to shop for the "best in class" suppliers of both software and Web development services. Idetix has solved this problem with JAVA-based Revize that is a deployment and developer independent solution with a cost that can start in the hundreds, not thousands of dollars per Web Site."
