Internap Expands Asia-Pacific Operations with Deployment to Equinix Data Centers in Key Growth Markets
Internap to Deploy P-NAP Service Points in Equinix IBX Centers in Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney, Australia
FOSTER CITY, Calif. & ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 2004-- Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, and Internap(R) Network Services Corporation (AMEX: IIP), the leading provider of performance-based routing technology over the Internet, today announced that Internap will expand its Asia-Pacific operations into three major new markets via deployments in Equinix Internet Business Exchange(TM) (IBX)(R) centers located in Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney, Australia.
Internap will install Private Network Access Points (P-NAPs), along with its patented route control software, in Equinix's Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney centers. In addition to offering access to the aggregation of Internet businesses operating within its connectivity hubs, Equinix will provide field support for the P-NAPs, along with local provisioning of access circuits and language translation to Internap's U.S. Network Operations Centers.
Through this agreement, Equinix customers will be able to access Internap's portfolio of advanced IP solutions - ranging from Internet connectivity to managed VPNs - as well as Internap's award-winning Flow Control Platform(TM) (FCP) customer premise equipment, and its recently announced Flow Control Xcelerator (FCX). Similarly, Internap can bundle its advanced IP services with Equinix's data center offerings. The agreement will offer a turnkey solution to customers seeking a presence in the Asia-Pac region. What's more, customers located in these cities can secure Internap IP connectivity through a local access connection into the Equinix IBX.
"Asia-Pacific expansion is a dramatic step for Internap that will allow us to better serve our existing multinational customers, while opening up major new markets in the world's fastest-growing region," said Gregory A. Peters, president and CEO of Internap. "Equinix has a strong presence in the Asia-Pacific region and made our data center partner decision an easy one."
"Internap's expansion to three of our Asia-Pacific IBX centers builds on the strong relationship that we've enjoyed with Internap in the U.S. over the past several years," said Peter Van Camp, CEO of Equinix. "While Internap can leverage the benefits of our rich connectivity options and selling our IBX portfolio of services, we are pleased to be able to make Internap's advanced IP solutions available to Equinix customers and prospects within our Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney centers."
Internap's unique multi-carrier intelligent routing technology, which uses P-NAPs to speed Internet traffic from one location to another, allows customer traffic to avoid the congestion and bottlenecks of traditional single-carrier networks. Internap's P-NAPs connect directly to the Internet backbones of multiple carriers in major cities throughout North America, as well as Tokyo and London. The P-NAP software continually analyzes the traffic situation on every major Internet backbone, and then selects the optimal path to deliver business-critical information and communications faster and more reliably. Today's announced P-NAP deployment will supplement Internap's existing services footprint, comprised of 27 domestic U.S. facilities and P-NAP locations in London and Tokyo. The Tokyo P-NAP is operated by Internap Japan Co., Ltd., Internap's joint venture with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation.
Equinix's data center and Internet exchange services enable networks, enterprises and Internet companies to quickly, easily and privately interconnect with a choice of business partners, service providers and customers, providing them with the flexibility, speed and adaptability they need to accelerate business growth and improve Internet performance. By operating within these neutral hubs of network service providers, companies can cost-effectively execute strategic connectivity agreements with their key business partners within a highly secure and reliable environment.
